A big congratulations to Elowen (UVI) on being cast in her first professional acting role with the Bristol Old Vic! Elowen successfully auditioned for the title role of The Roaring Girl, which follows the life of Mary Firth, also known as ‘Moll Cutpurse’ or ‘The Roaring Girl’, who is famously known as the 'notorious female leader of England's underworld'.
‘It's been an honour to be trusted with the role of Moll - I'm super excited to get to work on and play her and, though it'll be hard work, I'm so excited to perform The Roaring Girl within a professional production environment!’ Elowen said in response to landing the role.
In this adaptation, 'Moll' leads a group of women called 'The Roaring Girls' as they fight against the gender stereotypes of the time from the safety of Bristol's smuggling cave system. The show, by Thomas Dekker and Thomas Middleton, is a play from the 1600s and has been adapted in modern English by Bristol Old Vic. The Bristol Old Vic is the theatre company based at the Theatre Royal, Bristol, and is the oldest continuously working theatre in the English speaking world.
Director of Drama, Mr Duncan Ellis, said of Elowen's achievement, 'From the start of her school career, Elowen has always been one of our most talented drama students, a brilliant performer and totally committed Drama Scholar, Head of Subject and the star of so many of our shows. She thoroughly deserves this success and we’re so excited within the Drama Department as to what she will achieve next.'
The Roaring Girl will run from 10th–13th January in Bristol for five shows.
We wish Elowen the very best of luck!
