Georgia and Romilly: Sponsored Swim 

Back in November, Georgia and Romilly in Year 6 decided they wanted to raise money for charity and as they both love swimming, they decided to swim 1 mile (64 lengths) between them at the school swimming pool in aid of BBC Children in Need. The idea was born from Georgia hearingabout  Sophie Elis Bextor’s 24 hour ‘danceathon’ to raise money for BBC Children in Need, and she decided that she would also like to take on a challenge for this very worthy cause. She buddied up with Romilly, who loves swimming as much as she does, and together they created their own JustGiving page and raised an amazing £432 thanks to kind donations of family and friends. The girls explained:

“We had to persevere and not give up, even though it was tough, especially at the end, as we had no breaks and completed the challenge after a day of sport, so we were both quite tired. But the thought of helping all those children helped us finish the challenge. We feel very proud that we accomplished this challenge and did our bit to help those who might be suffering or going through tough times.”

Frank: Sponsored Swim 

“I really liked hearing how Captain Sir Tom Moore enjoyed seeing Everest as the story of his life and the amazing things he did. South Base Camp in Nepal is at an altitude of 5,364m and Everest stands at 8849 at its height. I wanted to swim the difference of 3458m, and that is why my fundraising target was £345.80!” In the end, Frank (Year 2) raised an impressive £700 for Macmillan Caring Locally, who support with palliative care in the community. He swam 140 lengths of the swimming pool during his Easter holiday, and he said the biggest challenge was “feeling really tired, and really thirsty, but he knew he had to keep going!” In the end, having completed the challenge, Frank said he felt very proud of himself – rightly so!

Sophie: Street Sale 

“We need to protect the world and each other. It doesn’t only belong to humans. We must show compassion.” Sophie (Year 5) decided to raise money for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), a cause close to her heart.  “My family and I went through our belongings collecting old books, toys or other bits that we no longer needed to then sell outside our house to raise money. Alongside that, we baked various treats!” Sophie’s efforts show a little can go a long way, raising £120 in total. She also earnt herself a badge she had been working towards at Brownies. Well done Sophie!

Beatrix , Claudia, Coco and Jemima: Sponsored Cycle

Following the outbreak of the war in the Ukraine, Beatrix, Claudia, Coco and Jemima (all in Year 6) decided they wanted to do something to raise money for those in need and chose to take on a challenge in support of the Ukraine Disaster Emergency Fund. They decided upon a sponsored cycle and set themselves the challenge of completing a 100-mile ride as a virtual team, with each of them taking responsibility for 25 miles. Undertaking a shared challenge, the girls knew communication was important, so agreed to share their updates via WhatsApp, which were then uploaded to their JustGiving page to track progress. Each of them chose routes local to their homes and planned their rides, tracking their progress using their iPhones and Fitbits! They worked brilliantly as a team, logging their overall progress and sending motivational messages to each other. Coco shared, “we all felt amazing, and very happy to be able to help people less fortunate than us.”  Huge congratulations to the girls who raised the incredible amount of just over £1,032.
