The 2026-27 academic year at St Mary’s Calne and St Margaret’s Prep began with a special Start of Term Service at St Mary’s Parish Church, Calne.
 

Following a warm welcome from School Chaplain, Fr Jonathan Beach, pupils from both schools contributed thoughtful readings, particularly the new Year 6 pupils from St Margaret’s Prep and the St Mary’s Calne Head Girl’s Team.
 

Head, Mrs Anne Wakefield, then addressed pupils and staff, sharing how wonderful it was to see everyone again and to be in St Mary’s Church with children from both St Margaret’s Prep and St Mary’s Calne. She highlighted the strength that comes from coming together as one community.
 

‘It is wonderful to see the school community together, ready and refreshed for another year of learning and growing together,’ she said.
 

Mrs Wakefield also spoke about the importance of welcoming everyone, particularly at a time of new beginnings for many. She emphasised that creating a strong sense of belonging is key to keeping the school community happy, supportive and vibrant, where everyone feels valued and included.
 

A highlight of the service was a joint performance by the St Margaret’s Chamber Choir and the St Mary’s Chamber Choir. A particular highlight of the service was the bringing together of St Mary’s Chamber Choir, Junior Consort and St Margaret’s Chamber Choir, who sang John Rutter’s, The Lord bless you and keep you.  The joint choirs were led by Director of Music, Mrs Sarah Wilby. Their performance was a fitting celebration of the partnership between the two schools and set an uplifting tone for the term ahead.
 

With many exciting opportunities to look forward to during the Autumn Term, the school community begins the new academic year with renewed energy and enthusiasm. As we look ahead, let us remember to “be bold, be kind and be you” at every opportunity.
