On Saturday evening, the UVI girls, families and guests were able to enjoy a wonderful gala evening to celebrate their time at St Mary’s. With careful consideration of all the covid rules and regulations, we hosted an outdoor event with a sit-down drinks reception kindly sponsored by the CGA, followed by dinner. The girls had chosen ‘a night in wonderland’ as a theme and with the generous support of the PGSM, the tent canopy was decorated with fairy lights and tables were filled with garden flowers, vintage china, pretty napkins and floral menu cards as well as a beautifully illustrated programme.

In line with social distancing guidelines, guests were served a delicious summer menu of canapes, platters of smoked salmon and lemon chicken with vibrant salads and a trio of puddings.

After dinner, because we couldn’t dance, guests were treated to a brilliantly entertaining performance by comedy impressionist, actor and classically trained singer Jess Robinson. Jess is an award-winning artist who has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe and Royal Albert Hall, as well as on TV, Radio and has just finished a critically acclaimed nationwide tour.

With so many other events and gatherings being cancelled or postponed, Saturday evening was a true celebration of St Mary’s Calne and our 2021 leavers – it is truly the case that Calne Girls Can!
