Flora & Jon Connell talk about The Knowledge

Very pleased to welcome back Flora Connell (2008 leaver) with her father Jon, founder of The Week as well as Izzy Thomas (2008 leaver)

On Tuesday 1st November, the CGA invited Flora Connell (2008 leaver) and her father, Jon Connell - founder of The Week Magazine to talk more about their joint digital title, The Knowledge, which they have launched along with Izzy Thomas (2008 leaver).

As Flora and Jon confirmed, The Knowledge is a daily newsletter that makes news manageable. It takes just five minutes to read, bringing together the things that matter, along with a few things that don’t, from all the best news sources.

Students from LVI and UVI attended the talk and the editorial team from Kaleidoscope as well as Sienna, Head Girl and Iona, Alumnae Rep joined Flora & Jon for supper in the dining room and discussed more about their careers and memories of St Mary's.

Hannah, LVI writes more :

"Flora spoke about her experience during and after university, where she studied History. After this, she showed that you don’t necessarily have to have a career based on your degree, through her entertaining stories about playing ping pong with Prince at the music studio she worked at, before touring with her band.

Jon gave a resume of his time as a journalist and how he set up The Week. He explained that he and Flora began working together, along with Izzy Thomas, during lockdown.  They have launched “The Knowledge” which is a digital platform which shares and discusses daily news, social media platforms and current affairs.

The lecture was thoroughly interesting, presenting both advice and ideas for anyone who may wish to pursue journalism or entrepreneurism in the future."
