Into the Light: Daisy Sims Hilditch

Daisy Sims Hilditch (2010 Leaver) is delighted to present Into the Light, an exhibition of paintings at the Portland Gallery (20 July - 8 September).

This is her second exhibition with Portland Gallery, and over sixty works completed during 2022 and 2023 will occupy both floors of the gallery. The primary focus of Into the Light is Daisy’s plein air landscape painting following her wide travels across the UK and Europe, capturing the changing seasons across a variety of locations - from the glamourous ski resorts of Switzerland and the grandeur of Venice, to the pastoral charm of the English countryside.

Largely working outside on location, Daisy battles the elements including sub-zero conditions in the mountains to gusts and showers on remote beaches, the experience of which is embedded in her painting both literally and figuratively. Daisy has also included a number of studio still lifes which display the same interest in light and atmosphere.

“It is light that excites me and drives me to pick up my brushes and paint. My paintings are a celebration of light and I am fascinated by exploring tonal relationships in order to express the particular light effect before me.” – Daisy Sims Hilditch
