Fundraising update from Emily Sandbach

Delighted to have an update from Emily Sandbach (2019 Leaver) on her fundraising for the Meningitis Research Foundation....

Great to hear from Emily Sandbach (2019 Leaver) who is raising money for the Meningitis Research Foundation.

Emily says, "I wanted to give an update on my fundraising for the Meningitis Research Foundation.  Everything still going ahead with my climb up Kilimanjaro in August, but in the meantime I have also completed various fitness challenges - a half marathon this morning, and a Tough Mudder a couple weeks ago!

I have now raised nearly £6000 (as you can see in the link below), a huge chunk of which was thanks to my dad running the half marathon with me and raising money through his office, but I have also organised a pub quiz, bake sale, and a car boot sale which have helped raise lots of money too, in addition to lots of people sponsoring me for my fitness challenges!"

In September 2023, Emily will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with her housemate and a number of others from the University of Birmingham, in order to raise money and awareness for the Meningitis Research Foundation.

Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa, and the world's highest free-standing mountain, standing at 5,895 m above sea level (slightly higher than Everest Base Camp).  The climb will take 6 days, during which Emily will be tackling high altitudes, camping in rocky terrains, and sleeping at temperatures below 0°C.
