I joined St Mary’s in 2013 after being awarded a Foundation Scholarship and attending the school was the best thing that could have happened to me. The opportunities given to me at Calne were ones that I couldn’t have received anywhere else and I am so grateful to St Mary’s for enabling me to experience this.
At Calne, I could study Latin and Classical Greek at A level – options which most schools do not offer – and I enjoyed really small class sizes (with one subject being one on one!). The teachers were invaluable to me, offering not just academic help but pastoral care as well. In my final years at Calne, I got to know my teachers really well and I am still in contact with them now. They also gave me so much support with university (even helping me when I decided to apply for a completely different subject two weeks before the UCAS deadline) and gave up so much of their time to help me through the admissions processes. Throughout the process they always put what I wanted first and encouraged me to study what was best for me rather than what could have got the best results for the school.
The experiences I had at Calne were not just academic – the friendships I made there will last a lifetime and I always viewed Calne as a second home. I cannot thank St Mary’s enough for the support they gave me and I will always feel incredibly lucky to have had this opportunity.
